K9 Handler Leash 40 from TAC Team

We went searching for the best single-purpose nylon leash for a K9 handler and we think we found it….after custom-ordering it to our own TAC Team specifications.

We have been personally testing, searching stores and browsing the Internet for the most practical and economical nylon single-purpose leash for patrol work.  Here’s our criteria;  double nylon, ¾-inch to one-inch width, heavy-duty snap release at the dog's end, O-ring in handle, and 36 to 40 inches in length.

Product Description:  The nylon is doubled and then stitched.  The nylon is also doubled through the heavy-duty bronze snap release and through the 8-inch handle providing a better level of comfort for the handler.  The 40-inch length and the O-ring allow the leash to be secured around the average handler’s waist when the handler is dressed in full uniform with a ballistic vest.  

Officer Safety Tip:  A K9 handler's leash should ideally be wrapped around the handler's waist when not being used so it can easily ride above the gun belt and not interfere with the handgun and other equipment on the gun belt and be readily accessible when needed.   If not around the waist, the leash should be stored in a pocket where it can be readily retrieved by the handler.  Handlers should avoid wrapping a leash around the neck or shoulder as it may provide an advantage to a suspect if the suspect grabs it during a physical altercation. Control of the leash by a suspect can create loss of balance for the handler or allow the suspect to control the handler's movement and direction prior to an intervention by the service dog.  Be safe!
